Electronic Arts (EA) have revealed further details for the forthcoming Sims 3

Due to launch around the globe in 2009, and based on a franchise that has already racked up 98 million in sales units, Sims 3 is already guaranteed an anticipation level of stellar proportions.

EA have given up some details about the game, starting with the fact that it will be built upon a whole new engine three years in the making.

"The Sims 3 is being designed to be the next-generation flagship game from The Sims Label," read an EA statement.

The game will allow for a variety of Sim physiques and add five new personality traits that will translate to differing behaviour and responses during interactions with other Sims.  EA say that there will be over 700 million possibly combinations for each Sim.

In The Sims 3, Sims can go beyond the boundaries of their home lot, and immerse themselves in an open, living neighborhood, interacting with other Sims using our new deeper personality system. It is this type of open-ended gameplay that inspires endless creative possibilities. In addition the new goals and rewards systems will give players of all kinds from core gamers to storytellers the ability to enjoy long-term gameplay." Said Sims studio head Rod Humble.
