Forget HD DVD and Blu-Ray, Netflix plan to stream to PS3 and Xbox 360

Other reports seem to solidify this rumour somewhat with quotes taken from the Netflix Q3 2007 report indicating the companies desire to get into game console streaming as part of the companies “Watch Now” service;

“In terms of enabling the viewing of online content on the television screen, we are exploring a variety of options, including Internet connected, high definition DVD players, Internet connected game consoles, and dedicated Internet set tops, with a variety of partners, trying to understand the best ways to provide inexpensive viewing of online content on the television.”

“In the meantime, laptop computers are, for the younger generation, one of the primary ways video of all sorts is being enjoyed, and our online viewing is up dramatically quarter over quarter.”

How this will compete, if at all with Microsoft's IPTV for Xbox 360 or even with Sony’s proposed Play TV for PS3 is unclear, but streaming of High Definition programming at demand should sit comfortably with both companies as a way to add features to their current hardware offerings.
