2007: It was neck & neck PlayStation vs Wii in the U.S

Your IT - Entertainment

According to the NPD group the top ten games for 2007 were shared reasonably evenly across the major players in the U.S.

Topping the list – and really no surprise is Halo 3 for the Xbox 360, selling 4,820,000 Master Chiefs.   Now that developer Bungie have broken away from Microsoft, it is not too hard to image them hard at work at a multiplatform game to further cash in on their Xbox exclusive.

The rest of the top ten looks thus;

2.Wii Play with remote (Wii)  - 4,120,000
3. Call of Duty 4 (Xbox 360) – 3,040,000
4. Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (PS2) – 2,720,000
5. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii) – 2,520,000
6. Pokemon Diamond (DS) – 2,480,000
7. Madden NFL 08 (PS2) – 1,900,000
8. Guitar Hero II (PS2) – 1,890,000
9. Assassin’s Creed (Xbox 360) – 1,870,000
10. Mario Party 8 (Wii) – 1,820,000

Sure, Sony would love to see a PS3 title up in the top ten in 2008, but given the continued popularity of PS2 titles it would be churlish to complain.

With a number of blockbusters on the horizon – one of which is the next iteration of the Grand Theft Auto franchise – 2008 will surely build even further on the 34 percent increase in software sales (up to US$8.64 billion) the U.S saw in 2007
