It is back on top in Japan , thanks to Wii Fit, but even in Wii Fit-less U.S. the sales figures for Nintendo’s game console are dominating the opposition. Sony can take heart however as robust sales in software begin to take hold.
November saw 973,000 Nintendo Wii’s head into U.S households.
For the same month Microsoft shifted 768,000 Xbox 360 machines and Sony offloaded 465,000 PS3’s
November in the U.S. is a high profile month; it includes the Black Friday Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Black Friday because it is the weekend when retailers get back into black on the accounting ledger, as sales go through the roof.
Hardware sales were not the only hot gaming item during the period. NPD sales data tracking shows the following growth in gaming software sales.
Compared to an overall 15% growth for November 2006, 2007 saw software for the Xbox 360 climb 141%, Nintendo Wii up 504% and the Sony PS3 software line ship a whopping 941% over last year.
For November, the top selling U.S games were;
* Call of Duty 4, from Activision (Xbox 360)
* Super Mario Galaxy, from Nintendo (Wii)
* Assassin’s Creed, from Ubisoft (Xbox 360)
* Guitar Hero III w/guitar, from Activision (PS2)
* Wii Play, from Nintendo (Wii).
