Samsung, Microsoft extend Live Photo Gallery to picture frame

Your IT - Entertainment

A new digital photo frame from Samsung provides wireless connectivity to Windows Live Photo Gallery, allowing the display of images stored locally or on photo sharing sites.

The 8in frame, model number SPF-83V, uses technology developed by Microsoft Research.

"Working with industry leaders such as Samsung to allow them to deploy Microsoft's innovative technologies and bring great products and services to customers more rapidly is what our intellectual property licensing efforts are all about," said Louis Carbonneau, general manager of intellectual property licensing at Microsoft.

The SPF-83V has an 800x600 pixel display and consumes 12W of power. It can also play video files and MP3 audio, and is able to communicate with Windows Media Player

"Offering our customers next-generation products that bring them closer to family and friends is important to us," said Christopher Franey, vice president of commercial sales and marketing at Samsung Electronics America's information technology division.

"Our latest digital photo frames, based on cutting-edge technology from the Microsoft Research labs, are easy to use and are one of the few offerings in the marketplace that offer a network approach to digital photo sharing. This is a great example of our ongoing collaboration with Microsoft," he added.

The SPF-83V costs around $US230.
