Wii equals toy according to Square Enix head

Your IT - Entertainment

Yoichi Wada, CEO of Square Enix, the developer that brought the world Final Fantasy has had a few observations to make about the current state of play in next-generation game consoles.

In an interview with CNET Japan, Wada gave some brief and frank views on where he sees the relative position of each major game console on the market today

"I think the current trend is that most people aren't buying the Wii as a game machine, but as a toy,"

"The Wii is the antithesis of the Xbox 360," he adds. "Xbox 360 is strictly for hardcore gamers. The attachment rate for the Xbox 360 is much higher than for the Wii. People who buy the 360 really like games."

Okay, that is pretty clear, but what about Square Enix's homeland, Sony?  The PS2 has made the Final Fantasy series one of the biggest selling and most well known and copied franchise of its type in the world.

According to Wada, Sony are in limbo at the moment, still sorting out where to position themselves in the market; "It seems that Sony isn't sure what it wants to do. Is it making high-end electronics or a game console for gamers? I want them to clearly define their console."
