Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
Developer Auran Games has been working hard in their Brisbane bunker upon the new massively multiplayer online battle game Fury. First glimpsed at the 2006 eGames Expo in Melbourne, the game is ready for release.
At last years eGames & Entertainment Expo, players were able to try a taster of the fast and intense game-play of the aptly named Fury.
Still a year from completion the game already looked polished and reasonably balanced, ready for a different slant on the increasingly crowded Massive Multiplayer Online Game market.
Now Fury is ready for the masses, and will be launched on October 16th this year.
Attendees at this years Expo will be able to battle against other like minded virtual thugs in a LAN style environment with the full release version of Fury.
“This year’s eGames looks set to be even bigger and better than before and we are pleased to have so many of the big names back with us and so many exciting ‘firsts’ to share with visitors again this year,” commented Noel Gray, Managing Director, Australasian Exhibitions & Events.
“The expo was an enormous success last year and attracted over 15,000 people who have an interest in games and electronic entertainment over the three days. We are already expecting even more visitors to travel from all over Australia and even internationally to attend eGames this time around,” he added.
Developed over a three year period by Brisbane game studio, Auran Games, Fury is the first massively multiplayer internet based video game to have been developed in Australia.
Fury is a combat focused PC game set in a mythical fantasy universe. International showings of the game in North America, Europe and Australasia have meant that Fury has already attracted a massive international following - well before its official launch to the market on October 16.
Indeed, the game is expected to attract hundreds of thousands of players worldwide and it is anticipated that Fury will help put Australian game developers on the map.
Of the showcasing of Fury at eGames, Mr Gray said, “Visitors to eGames will have the chance to play against people in the same room and on the other side of the world when they play Fury at the expo. It’s exciting to think that our expo will be ‘experienced’ around the globe through the power of this incredible, new game.”
Fury is one of the first massively multiplayer online games to draw upon a real world character – FHM’s ‘girl next door’, Siobhan Parekh, who stars as a playable character in the game. The Sydney based model of Irish-Indian descent, fits perfectly into the Eurasian theme of the game. Ms Parekh is booked for a European press tour to promote her pioneering involvement in the game.
Fury is also the first game in the world to carry the ‘Australian Made’ logo and is expected to generate significant revenue for the local economy.
The Australian Made, Australian Grown logo is celebrating its 21st birthday this year and can now be found on 10,000 products sold in Australia and around the world.
Expo opening hours are Friday 16 November, 12pm to 6pm, Saturday 17 November, 10am to 6pm and Sunday 18 November, 10am to 5pm.
