PSP grabs sales lead in Japan

Your IT - Entertainment

Sony’s PlayStation Portable (PSP) has grabbed the lead over the very popular Nintendo DS in the Japanese game hardware market.  The lead is substantial and is mainly due to the release on one particular piece of software.

Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII has sold a whopping 486,659 units with 25890 being sold this week in Japan.  This game along with slimming down of the PSP hardware has helped push the PSP into top sales spot.

The actual sales figures for the week were;

95,487 Sony PSP
79,974 Nintendo DS
26,181 Nintendo Wii
13,128 PlayStation 2
13,101 PlayStation 3
1,243 Xbox 360

The Square Enix developed game has boosted the PSP sales by more than six times the previous week’s figures.
