Buzz!: Quiz TV combines Blu-ray with downloads

Your IT - Entertainment

The next game in the Buzz! series will support user-contributed questions.

Buzz!: Quiz TV, the next in Sony's quiz game franchise, will challenge players with 'channels' covering music, movies/TV, sports, general knowledge and lifestyle.

While the PlayStation 3 game will ship on a Blu-ray disc containing 5000 questions, players will be able to create and share their own questions via the MyBuzz web site. Furthermore, additional quiz packs - some tailored to specific countries or even towns - will be available via the PlayStation network.

Players will be able to opt for questions drawn solely from the most recently downloaded pack, from a particular channel, or a free-for-all covering the entire content pool.

Buzz!: Quiz TV also introduces 'Sofa vs Sofa' mode, allowing online play against other groups.

Since all PS3s are fitted with a Blu-ray drive, it makes sense for Sony to take advantage of the extra storage space for games, but the format is still battling it out in the movie marketplace with the competing HD DVD standard.

Buzz!: Quiz TV is scheduled for release in March 2008.
