Sega have announced the latest game from the creators of the Total War series: Look out! Those horny Norse are coming in Viking: Battle for Asgard
Creative Assembly have brought us many a fine historical battle moment on PC with the Total War Series. The latest
Medieval II: Total War is a masterpiece.
Now they are venturing again onto the console platform (as they did with the PS2's Spartan: Total Warrior). This time they are getting all Norse on our collective arses with
Viking: Battle for Asgard.
Due in early 2008 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3
Viking: Battle for Asgard will step away from the "realism" of the Total War series and look at Norse mythology.
Sounds very much like this will be a similar experience to
Spartan: Total Warrior as the player takes the role of a young Viking warrior Skarin. Battling mythical beasts, liberating allies in an attempt to protect Midgard from the goddess Hel and her army of undead barbarians. Odin should really not have kicked her out of Asgard to start with.
Creative Assembly promise large environments to explore and rampage through, and of course we should expect a final apocalyptic battle (Ragnarok) to splash onto our TV's.
Last time, Creative Assembly had to battle sales of
Spartan: Total Warrior with the hyped up and fun
God of War. This time around, depending on timing, they may well be battling against the release of
Beowulf from developer Tiwak. Though
Beowulf is due in November to coincide with the release of the Robert Zemeckis feature film.
