PS3 firmware 1.90 released

Your IT - Entertainment

New firmware for the PlayStation3 delivers a variety of minor changes to the console.

Firmware 1.90 allows users to replace the PS3's wallpaper with a photo - "one of the top three requests we received," according to Eric Lempel, director of PlayStation Network operations.

Other changes include the ability to rearrange games in the XMB (Cross Media Bar), the addition of emoticons to messaging, playback of AVCHD videos from a Memory Stick or camera, display adjustment within games and Blu-ray movies, upscaling of audio CD output via HDMI or digital optical, and remote control of disc ejection.

"We’re working on additional features for our next update that will incorporate more of your feedback," added Lempel. One of the most-demanded features seems to be in-game access to the XMB, along with broader video codec support (eg, for Divx).
