Capcom gets Steamy

One of Japans biggest game publishers, Capcom, have signed up to the online distribution system Steam.  The slow death of retail game stores builds up steam.

Gaming stalwart Capcom has been around for a long time, riding the highs and lows of the video game industry.  Now there is news of a teaming up with the granddaddy of online game distributions, Valves’ Steam.

Being the first Japanese publisher to join Steam, Capcom brings some powerhouse titles to the online store; Lost Planet: Extreme Condition, Onimusha 3, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition and Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo HD Remix will be first to appear with future PC titles promised.

To be official, Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition will arrive later in the week followed by Onimusha 3.  The Direct X 10 enabled Lost Planet: Extreme Condition will arrive on June 26th.

Capcom's executive vice president Mark Beaumont was quick to praise the online PC games store;"Steam is the right place for us to go with our titles. Valve has created a huge installed base of gamers who naturally fit with the profiles of the titles that Capcom develops,"

Love it or hate it, Steam has carved a niche for itself, providing a relatively easy distribution platform that have made blockbusters out of obscure titles such as Darwinia and Defcon, as well as keeping the ball rolling on much hyped titles such as Valve’s own Half-Life series.
