Telstra has revealed the addition of almost one million new mobile services in the six months to December 2011, but Sensis revenues plummeted 24 percent in 12 months.
The incident has been circulating under various guises, but a recent statement from Microsoft has concluded that the victims – like many in these sorts of scams – where duped by social engineering methods rather than any inherent flaw in the Microsoft Xbox Live or Bungie.net online gaming network.
In the company statement ; "There have been a few isolated incidents where malicious users have been attempting to draw personal information from unsuspecting users and use it to gain access to their Live account. We have looked into the situation and found no evidence of any compromise of the security of Bungie.net or our Live network,"
"We think this is a good time to remind our members that they should never give out any of their personal information," Microsoft said. To protect their account, Xbox users should not give out information that personally identifies them, such as their real name, address, phone number or credit card number.
So rest easy little Xbox Livettes, Microsoft has given the assurances we need to continue using the service. So long as you don’t give your details to anybody, sound advice in this connected world.
