Memory boost for Xbox 360

Your IT - Entertainment

Microsoft has announced a 512M memory unit for the Xbox 360 will be released early next month.

The $US49.99 unit will be include Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved as an introductory offer.

At the same time, the price of the 64M memory unit will be cut to $US29.99. Indeed. Who would buy the 64M unit at the old price when just $US10 buys eight times as much memory?

The new unit provides additional space for saved games, profiles, Xbox Live  Arcade games and other content from Xbox Live Marketplace.

Microsoft has also increased the size limits on Xbox Live Arcade games from 50M to 150M. Developers are expected to take advantage of this to provide greater complexity and sophistication in their Xbox Live Arcade games.

"The new size limit offers developers increased flexibility and continued opportunities for innovative game development, while also ensuring that the millions of gamers on Xbox Live can continue to easily access, download and play all Xbox Live Arcade games on Xbox 360," said Chris Early, product unit manager for Xbox Live Arcade and Microsoft Casual Games at Microsoft.

Owners of the 512M memory unit will also be able to download "exclusive content" from Xbox 360 kiosks at retail outlets.
