The writing has been on the wall for some time now.  Finally, rumours abound that Palm has put up the for-sale signs.

Six months after Apple rejected iPhone apps that enabled the smartphone to access Google Voice, Google has released a browser-based mobile app to get around the rejection.

In December, Palm will open the official webOS developer program to support the creation of applications for the Pre and other upcoming smartphones. The company also launched its App Catalog of applications available for download.

A new version of Palm's webOS slipped out quietly over the weekend, improving syncing with archived e-mail. Oh, and it restores the iTunes syncing ability, too.

It appears Palm is seeking to follow Apple’s footsteps in gaining a reputation for inconsistent and spurious rejections and removals of iPhone and iPod Touch applications. In this case, Palm has resisted including a free application because the source code is attainable elsewhere.

We've already got an open standard for QR Code, but Microsoft's plugging away with a proprietary alternative and some organisations are responding.

According to the latest figures from Canalys, Microsoft is losing share in the smartphone market as the number of platforms proliferates and it now commands less than 10 percent.

Palm released version 1.1 of the Pre's WebOS operating system, which, in addition to adding a few new features, restores the smartphone's ability to sync with iTunes.

Apple has withdrawn its legal threats against the Bluwiki website for hosting discussions of how to sync iPods with software other than iTunes. In response, the Electronic Frontier Foundation has dismissed its lawsuit against Apple.

The latest update for iTunes stops the Palm Pre from synchronising with the iTunes library. It also delivers unspecified but supposedly "important" bug fixes.
