Steve Jobs famously described Apple TV as a "hobby". Is OS X being relegated to similar status?

It wasn't clear whether Apple would keep the OS X Lion installer up to date on the Mac App Store, or if we'd need to apply any subsequent updates. Now we know.

Apple has today released a wave of new products but has quietly retired the MacBook, replacing it with lower-end models of the MacBook Air.

Apple’s Mac OS X Lion is now available, coming ironically just as I was searching the Mac App Store to see if it was online, with the OS certainly there, but coming up as I type as “temporarily unavailable” – even so, it’s finally here, let the downloading commence!

Coming in July is Apple’s new Mac OS X, numbered 10.7, codenamed Lion and, unlike the “will it be late, Windows 8”, Lion nicely blends OS X and iOS, and will cost just US $29.99 or AUD $31.99.

Although Apple’s WWDC will be showcasing Mac OS X 10.7 “Lion”, iOS 5.0 and perhaps even an iPhone 4S or iPhone 5, it could instead also see OS X Lion roaring into life early, unleashing what could be a powerful boost to sales of Apple’s Mac computers.

Rumors of the return of AutoCAD to the Mac have been bolstered by screenshots posted to an Italian Mac news site and by widespread availability of a beta version.

The latest version of the popular EyeTV television tuner application for Mac OS X features an export preset to suit the iPad.

Version 2.0 of Mozy's Windows backup client gives the option of backing up to an external disk as well as to the cloud, and also boasts speed improvements.
