The era has come where individuals never have to go without computer presence in their lives – thanks to the rise and evolution of smartphones. The gap between desktop and mobile abilities is beginning to narrow due to the influx of updated mobile devices and tablets — all of which are equipped to handle even the most intricate applications. This convergence has inevitably triggered a demand for a one-size-fits-all solution.

HP has revealed the timetable for the release of webOS under an open source licence. Open webOS 1.0 is scheduled to appear in September.

Dell has chosen SUSE as the first Linux distribution available on its Dell Cloud with VMware vCloud Datacenter Service.

  OS X Lion 10.7.2 provides iCloud compatibility, assorted bug fixes and improvements, and a slew of security fixes. A corresponding security update is available for Snow Leopard 10.6.8.  

It's now hard to imagine that the next update for Lion is more than a week away.

Mirroring growth in Mac OS X's overall web share, usage of Apple's Safari browser has cracked the 5% figure for the first time. The usage of Chrome also continues to grow.
