F-Secure is warning Windows users worldwide of a new ransomware trojan that silently encrypts your data, tells you your data has been corrupted, and tries selling you “data doctor” software to fix the corrupted files – when all it does it decrypt the data, in what is an almost perfect scam!

Online security checkers have been around for a while, but there's a new kid on the block: F-Secure's Health Check 2.0.

Although already available for Nokia/Symbian S60 3rd and 5th edition phones, F-Secure is set to make its “smartphone security solution” available for Windows Mobile 5/6 (from June 24 2009) including an “advanced anti-theft feature that includes easy remote locking and wiping of confidential data if the phone is lost or stolen”.

A flood of spam has infiltrated the Twitter microblogging community, with new Twitter scams ‘popping up right left and centre’ according to F-Secure, which says it discovered a fake Twitter account that tricks users into a Google scam by promising a free Range Rover.

In an attempt to gain some headway against Symantec and its Norton suites, F-Secure has done a deal for Optus broadband customers, giving them a free trial of its Internet Security suite and a chance to win a trip to the 2009 Malaysian Grand Prix.
