Technology startups with global attraction aren’t often found in Melbourne, but Favourit, which recently launched to over 230K Facebook fans, has built a gamified social network dedicated to those passionate about sports and entertainment.

Employing 8 staff in Melbourne, Favourit has received over $2.5M in funding to-date to build and launch the platform to its global audience, including sports fanatics, social gamers and punters alike.

Co-founders Toby and Josh Simmons – both still young enough to be called Gen “Y”, saw the opportunity to provide a more engaging and social experience for sports and entertainment. They have built a globally scalable platform that has recently launched in Beta and is already used by sports fans right around the world, centering on Australia, Asia and Europe.

The Simmons brothers were joined as founding investors by Martin Dalgleish and Richard Kuo, who are also Directors of the company Favourit Global (and Dalgleish as Chairman).  Martin is well known to media and technology circles as the previous CEO of New Media for PBL and has worked with and on the Boards of many of Australia’s pre-eminent Media and online assets. Richard is the principal of Pier Capital, one of the leading Media and Tech investment advisory firms in Australia.

Likened to Facebook for sports fanatics, Favourit offers users a very social experience integrating live stats, scores, social data, trends and rich media related to events around the world. Favourit also lets users prove their expertise and compete to be the Leader of particular sports, earning IQ and virtual credits from their ability to predict winners. In addition, Favourit offers users who want to improve their game the ability to copy experts to improve their predictions and success.

Having identified an emerging niche in “social sports betting”, Favourit also offers corporate bookmakers the ability to integrate their betting product into the platform and sell via a completely unique social experience. Favourit has redesigned the sports betting experience to meet demands of today’s savvy web users, making the experience simpler, more content and media driven. Bookmakers across the globe including Australia, the United Kingdom and greater Europe have all shown great interest in the platform as a new experience for their customers who are limited to very transactional websites and mobile apps.

“We’ve developed Favourit to be a brilliant experience on web, mobile and tablet for all sports fanatics. Whether you’re the user who wants to check scores or social chat, loves fantasy leagues or wants to put real money bets on the event, Favourit gives you a must have experience”, Chief Executive Toby Simmons said. “We’re beginning to work with sporting codes and brand partners who understand the value of Favourit as a media and technology partner to provide more user engagement for their audiences and generate new revenue streams. The bookmakers are equally engaged in the technology as a brand new offering for customers who’ve grown tired to the very transactional interfaces”.
