Fox News adds, 'Weiler said he quit last year because he was tired of fighting to save Mars from the budget knife. He said he fought successfully to keep major cuts from Mars in the current budget but has no firsthand knowledge of the 2013 budget proposal.'

In addition, please also read the Science magazine article 'Ed Weiler Says He Quit NASA Over Cuts to Mars Program.'

Weiler is quoted in the article: 'The Mars program is one of the crown jewels of NASA. In what irrational, Homer Simpson world would we single it out for disproportionate cuts?"

And, check out the Washington Post article 'Obama's budget would cut Mars program, solar system exploration.'

It begins, 'The budget coming Monday from the Obama administration will send the NASA division that launches rovers to Mars and probes to Jupiter crashing back to Earth.'

Dr. Jim Bell, a scientist at Arizona State University and president of the Planetary Society, stated within the article, 'We're doing all this great science and taking the public along with us. Pulling the rug out from under it is going to be really devastating.'

It also mentions the U.S. president: "Two years ago, President Obama said his ultimate goal was to send astronauts to Mars."
