The space shuttle Endeavour (Orbital Vehicle 105 [OV-105]) launched for the first time on May 1992 for its mission STS-49. It was built to replace the space shuttle Challenger, which was destroyed just 73 seconds after liftoff on its STS-51L mission on January 28, 1986.
