The space shuttle Endeavour made it to space on Monday, February 8, 2010, as lingering clouds this time did not prevent its launch as it did the day before. STS-130 will now deliver new parts to the Space Station, which will be about 90% complete after these parts are installed.
Check out the YouTube video of the dramatic 2-8-2010 night launch of Endeavour and its STS-130 crew at: “
STS-130 Night Launch Space Shuttle Endeavour, From NASA KSC Press Site.”
The liftoff before dawn on Monday morning had been delayed about 24 hours due to an unexpected storm front that had come in from the north and settled over the central Florida area, including the Kennedy Space Center launch site.
Clouds were still apparent during the pre-launch activities. However, sufficient holes in the clouds allowed the launch to proceed at 4:14 a.m., local Florida time.
Space shuttle Endeavour is carrying the last major piece to be installed on the International Space Station (ISS).
Two of the STS-130 astronauts—Robert L. Behnken and Nicholas Patrick—will be taking three extravehicular activities (EVAs) to install this last major portion of the Space Station—the Tranquility module (Node 3).
