Astronauts now Twittering in space

Friday, January 22, 2010 went down in space history as the first time an astronaut—T.J. Creamer—made a direct, live Twitter post from space.


Timothy “TJ” Creamer was the first astronaut to make a direct Twitter post in space through a live Internet connection.

The website of Twitter is: http://twitter.com/.

In the past, astronauts were forced to relay Intenet messages to the Mission Control Center (MCC), part of the NASA Johnson Space Center, in Houston, Texas.

NASA personnel then relayed their messages on to Twitter and other such websites.

T.J.’s first live Twitter post was “Hello Twitterverse! We r now LIVE tweeting from the International Space Station -- the 1st live tweet from Space! :) More soon, send your ?s."

As shown, NASA astronaut Timothy “TJ” Creamer is identified on Twitter as “Astro_TJ”.

His first Twitter message was posted about eleven hours ago, at approximately 12:30 a.m. Central Standard Time (CST).
