NASA has confirmed that the STS-129 space shuttle mission to the International Space Station has been postponed.
The launch date for STS-129 has changed from 4:04 pm Eastern Standard Time (EST), or 2104 UTC, on the 12th of November, to 2:28 pm EST on the 16th of November.
There is not a problem with any aspect of the flight.
The delay in the mission occurred because of scheduling conflicts with other rocket launches in and around the November 12, 2009 timeframe at the NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC) and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Station (CCAFS), both located adjacent to one another off the eastern coast of central Florida on Merritt Island.
According to the NASA media brief "NASA Updates Shuttle Atlantis Target Launch Date, Crew Rehearsal," the change to a November 16 launch date for STS-129 was also made to "... optimize the agency's ability to launch both Ares 1-X and Atlantis before the end of the year."
And, "The same launch team at
Kennedy is supporting both the shuttle and the flight test of the Ares I-X
rocket, which is targeted to lift off on Oct. 27. Ares I-X is scheduled to
roll out to its launch pad at 12:01 a.m. EDT Tuesday."
The new launch date for Atlantis (November 16) will provide the Ares 1-X launch three opportunities days (October 27, 28, and 29) to launch.
