Space Station to become circus of the sun

Science - Space

According to the September 30, 2009 ABC News/Reuters article Canadian Circus Tycoon Makes Journey Into Space, “Labiberté wore a clown's red nose as he boarded a bus taking him to the spaceship, and a toy lion belonging to Suraev's daughter bounced from a string in the capsule.”

The mission was organized by Space Adventures, a space tourism company based in Vienna, Virginia.

The company also organized the previous seven trips to the International Space Station by six space tourists, or spaceflight participants.

Charles Simonyi made the trip twice, once in April 2007 and most recently in March-April 2009.

A representative for Space Adventures quoted Labiberté: "I needed it to be the right time and for the right purpose. This is the time. And the purpose is clear: to raise awareness on water issues to humankind on planet earth." [ABC News]

Labiberté will webcast part of his “Poetic Social Mission” live at ONEDROP.org on October 9, 2009. It is entitled “Moving Stars and Earth for Water.”

The mission statement of the One Drop Foundation is: "To fight against poverty by providing access to water and raising awareness among individuals and communities about the need for mobilization in order to make safe water accessible to all, in sufficient quantity, today and tomorrow."
