Hubble is back! And, it's better than ever!

Science - Space

To visually describe the successful “extreme makeover” of Hubble, Senator Mikulski unveiled images recently taken by Hubble at the NASA ceremony.

The complete series of the images are found at “Images from Refurbished Hubble.”

One image is of the Planetary Nebula NGC 6302 (sometimes commonly called the Butterfly Nebula), which is a bipolar planetary nebula (like two wings of a butterfly) within the constellation Scorpius.

NGC 6302 is described on the NASA website as a celestial object that “looks like a delicate butterfly. But it is far from serene.”

The shape that looks like butterfly wings is really “... rolling cauldrons of gas heated to more than 35,000 degrees Fahrenheit.” [or 19,430 degrees Celsius]

Many more equally exciting and dramatic images of our universe appear on this NASA website.

Take a look and be amazed!
