Over the next many months, the LROC will be taking more and more images of the lunar surface.
The LRO spacecraft just reached the Moon on June 23, 2009. So, its mission has just begun.
To learn more about the insertion of the spacecraft into lunar orbit, read the June 23, 2009
iTWire article “

To view these first pictures, please go to “

The pictures are also located on the website of the LRO camera “

Part of the article accompanying the pictures state,
"At this scale and lighting, impact craters dominate the landscape. Two general types of impact craters are readily identifiable."
"Solitary craters which most likely represent a single impact event, and clusters or chains of small, fresh craters produced by the impact of lunar material excavated by a larger impact."
