The scheduled liftoff of
Endeavour from Launch Pad 39A at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida, is 7:17 a.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), or 8:17 p.m. Japanese Standard Time (JST), on June 13.
It is the 29th mission of the shuttle fleet to the Space Station.
NASA states,
“The 16-day mission will feature five spacewalks and complete construction of the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency's Kibo laboratory. Astronauts will attach a platform to the outside of the Japanese module that will allow experiments to be exposed to space.”
The
Kibo facility will provide a "front porch" type structure for experiments in the exposed environment of outer space.
A robotic arm will be attached to the Kibo Pressurized Module and used to position experiments outside the station.
