A successful maintenance and repair mission by the STS-125 crew will give Hubble an extended lifetime through 2013, for more exciting discoveries about our wonderful universe.
Further information about this special flight is found on the NASA website “
STS-125: Final Shuttle Mission to Hubble Space Telescope.”
Over its 25 years of service to the United States and the world, the space shuttle program has had many successes and two major disasters.
The repair and maintenance of ailing satellites have been the focal point of many of these successes. The launching of brand new satellites into space has also been the forte of shuttle missions.
As we learn more about our Earth, our solar system, our galaxy, and our Universe, humans do this under the assumption that success is not always guaranteed.
However, unless we try, humans are doomed to stagnate.
We can only succeed when we try. We can only try when we have the courage to take that first bold step out of Earth’s secure footings and onto the Moon and Mars, and other places yet to be explored by humans.
