NASA celebrates Apollo's 40th Anniversary to Moon

NASA adds, “NASA's Apollo missions Web site provides easy access to various NASA resources and multimedia about the Apollo story, the program and the history of human spaceflight, including gallery of images from the Apollo program."

The Apollo site is online at: http://www.nasa.gov/apollo.

NASA has also developed an interactive Apollo Program website. On the anniversary of each Apollo mission, the U.S. space agency will feature the mission with videos, photographs, and a “unique animated comic.”

Check out the website “Apollo40” for the current anniversary of Apollo 9 “The Adventures of Spider and Gumdrop.”

Apollo 9 (Apollo IX) was the first manned flight of the Command Module (CM), call sign “Gumdrop” (CM-104), and the Lunar Module (LM), call sign “Spider” (LM-3).

Spider was used because of the LM’s leggy, bug-like appearance, and Gumdrop was adopted because of the CM’s distinctive shape.
