Get the best person for the job. If that is Griffin, then leave him at his post. If Obama can find a better person, then do it, but be sure to consider experience when making that choice and make sure that NASA isn’t delayed with its programs when making such a choice.
We, as a country, need someone that already knows the operation of NASA and we cannot wait for another person to learn its system, both manned and unmanned.
In addition, Griffin has already shown he can effectively manage NASA and has the administrative and engineering background to continue to do the job.
According to
The Orlando Sentinel, U.S. Senator Bill Nelson is backing Griffin to remain at his job.
The Florida Democratic senator has stated,
“What I have said to the Obama operation is that I think Michael Griffin has done a good job and until they have a ‘must-have’ person from their standpoint, then Dr. Griffin should stay on.”
The Orlando Sentinel article “
Griffin: I'd like to stay but...” also stated what Nelson thinks of NASA's near future,
“… the agency shouldn’t be left in charge of an interim administrator. “What is a must-have person? Someone they are just dying to have as administrator. And I don’t see that [decision coming] any time soon.”
Therefore, Griffin may very well get what he wants for NASA.
