NASA has set up a website so that you can send your name around the Earth through the Glory satellite.
Please go to “
Send Your Name,” in order to submit your information to NASA.
NASA will ask for your first name, last name, email address, state, and country.
Once your information is submitted, you will receive a printable certificate from NASA.
I just made my submittal, and my certificate of participation says that
"This certificate recognizes that William Atkins has joined the Glory 'Send Your Name Around the Earth' project."
It continues with the statement
"Glory : 'We Got Your Back, Earth'," with a date of September 26, 2008 and a certificate number of 13950.
Though you get a certificate, your name will also be recorded on a microchip that will be inserted onto the Glory satellite.
The deadline for submitting your name, according to NASA, is November 1, 2008.
About seven and one-half months later, in or around June 15, 2009, the Glory satellite will be launched as part of the Afternoon Constellation, or nicknamed the A-Train.
The A-Train is a series of Earth-observing satellites, of which Glory is one, which will orbit the Earth in a series, only a few minutes apart. The A-Train satellites will orbit around the Earth once every appoximately 100 minutes.
They will be positioned in their orbit, with respect to their altitude and inclination, so they pass above the equator every day just after 1:30 p.m. local time at different locations each day.
Two primary instruments are aboard the Glory satellite to make important measurements for the global climate of Earth. Please read page three.
