Earth-imaging satellite, GeoEye-1, launched with best resolution: 16 inches

The manufacturer of the GeoEye-1 is the Advanced Information Systems division of General Dynamics. GeoEye-1 was built in Gilbert, Arizona, U.S.A.

It is estimated to cost about a half billion U.S. dollars to build and launch into space.

In addition, the ITT Corporation built the imaging system for GeoEye-1 out of Rochester, New York, U.S.A. GeoEye, Inc. will be operating the satellite out of its satellite control center in Dulles, Virginia, U.S.A.

The company states that it will sell the imaging services from GeoEye-1 for such purposes as defense, agriculture, and environmental mapping.
