Mars Express sends 'sharpest ever' photos of Phobos

Science - Space

ESA officials described Phobos as a "small irregular body" measuring 27 × 22 × 19 km (17 x 14 x 12 miles), and thought to be a captured asteroid or a remnant of the material that formed the planets.

Deimos, the second moon of mars is even smaller though slightly less irregular, measuring 15 x 12 x 11 km (9 x 7.5 x 7 miles).

Both are tiny in comparison with Earth's Moon, which has a diameter of 3475 km (2159 miles).

Some of the Mars Express images can be seen on the ESA's web site.
