ESA officials described Phobos as a "small irregular body" measuring 27 × 22 × 19 km (17 x 14 x 12 miles), and thought to be a captured asteroid or a remnant of the material that formed the planets.Both are tiny in comparison with Earth's Moon, which has a diameter of 3475 km (2159 miles).
