The largest annual U.S. air show is being held July 28-August 3, 2008, in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. The high-flying event features Harrison Ford, John Travolta, Sir Richard Branson, Burt Ratan, NASA astronauts and NASA administrator Michael Griffin, and the rock group Foreigner.
In addition, the extravaganza held by the Experimental Aircraft Association (
EAA) called
2008 AirVenture also includes NASA models of the Orion spacecraft and Ares rocket, demonstrations of the Rocket Racing League, the Goodyear blimp, around 10,000 various aircraft, and much, much more.
Many of the world’s most exciting aerobatic performers are featured at Oshkosh this year over the skies at Wittman Regional Airport. Some of these
air show teams include the Warbirds of America, Liberty Parachute Team, AeroShell Team, Collaborators Formation Aerobatic Team, and Aerostars 3.
Of the thousands of aircraft at the event, about
50 Piper Comanches are expected to arrive all at once in order to help celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Piper’s first all-metal aircraft.
The Red Bull BO 105 CBS helicopter, the only
aerobatic helicopter making regular showings in North America, will appear at the air show. It is a stock Eurocopter/Messerschmitt Boelkow Blohm (MBB).
In addition the
Boeing Dreamlifter, a modified 747,400 aircraft will make a 24-hour stop over at the EAA AirVenture. With only three made so far in the world, the Dreamlifter is scheduled to arrive late on Monday, July 28, and depart the next day.
Celebrating
NASA's fifty years of space exploration in the United States by the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, its administrator Michael Griffin will speak as part of one of the activities of the Experimental Aircraft Association. His talk begins at 11:30 a.m. Central Daylight Time (CDT) on Tuesday, July 29, 2008, in Forum Pavilion 6 on the grounds of the Wittman Regional Airport.
