Moon’s magical powers seem to rise on June 18th

Science - Space

As of 2002, Helen Ross and Cornelis Plug conclude in their book “Mystery of the Moon Illusion” that "No single theory has emerged victorious."

Even scientific papers have been submitted and published in scientific journals. For one, “Explaining the moon illusion” by Lloyd Kaufman, Department of Psychology at Long Island University (Brookville, New York, U.S.A.), and James H. Kaufman, at IBM Research Division (San Jose, California, U.S.A.)

You might make a name for yourself if you can find an explanation for this Moon Illusion and, most importantly, get scientists to accept it as fact.

In any case, you might just like to go outside and watch the beautiful Moon rise from the horizon and creep above whatever is facing you to the east on Wednesday night, June 18, 2008.

Go to the NASA website “Solstice Moon Illusion” for selected sites across the United States to see the Moon Wednesday night. And, you don’t have to be in the United States to see the event. The Moon will be arising all over the world.

Other explanations for the Moon Illusion are also given on this NASA website.

As always: “Happy skygazing!!”
