Space station crew forced to use out house

The new toilet system was reported by iTWire on July 7, 2007, with the article “NASA purchases way-out-house for Space Station from Russians.”

The STS-124 mission is scheduled to launch on May 31, 2008, at 5:02 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). The launch will be covered on NASA TV.

Additional information about the STS-124 mission is found at “NASA STS-124.”

Mark E. Kelly will command the STS-124 mission and Kenneth T. Ham will serve as the mission’s pilot.

Mission specialists include NASA astronauts Karen L. Nyberg, Ronald J. Garan Jr., and Michael E. Fossum.

Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) astronaut Akihiko Hoshide also serves as a mission specialist. He will help deliver and install the Pressurized Module and robotic arm of the Japanese Experiment Module, known as Kibo, to the International Space Station.

Astronaut Gregory E. Chamitoff is also a mission specialist on STS-124. He will stay onboard the Space Station, replacing U.S. astronaut Garrett E. Reisman as one of the Expedition 17 flight engineers.

Reisman will return home with the STS-124 crew.
