World of space highlighted at 2007 Space Conference

The theme for this year’s event is “From Old Frontiers to New: Celebrating 50 Years of Space Flight”. On October 4, 1957, fifty years ago, the Soviet Union ushered in the beginning of the Earth’s space age with the launching of Sputnik 1.

In attendance will be leaders from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and other countries’ national space programs, along with entrepreneurs from fledgling private space companies, officials from investment companies, and representatives from space-related organizations.

Some of the featured speakers include: former U.S. astronaut Buzz Aldrin (the second human to set foot on the Moon), U.S. astronaut Shannon Lucid (who holds the record for longest duration stay in space by a woman), and U.S. hotel businessperson Robert Bigelow (who owns Bigelow Aerospace)

Today’s technologies will be highlighted along with glimpses of what could be seen in the future. The three main programs are called: “Frontier Transport” (which involves space transportation), “The Lunar Frontier” (involving lunar and cislunar [between the Earth and the Moon] space development), and “The Martian Frontier”.
