The mission was launched by at Atlas 5 rocket at 10:10 p.m. eastern standard time (ET), or 03:10 Greenwich Mean Time (GMT), on Thursday. The two satellites are part of the U.S. Air Force’s Orbital Express. The goal of the mission is to test the ability of robotic satellites to automatically rendezvous and perform various activities in order to free up humans for more important tasks in the future.

An indirect accomplishment for the flight was the 80th consecutive successful launch for an Atlas rocket.
