Future of NASA through eyes of administrator Griffin

On February 7, 2007, NASA administrator Michael D. Griffin spoke to members of the National Space Club on the past, present, and future of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) and the United States space program.

In concluding his talk, Griffin quoted a man, now resting at Arlington Cemetery, who spoke of the reason why humans explore space and, for that matter, do anything that is difficult and often times dangerous.

"We choose to go to the moon. We choose to go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard, because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one which we intend to win."
