Need a good diet? See which one Consumer Reports ranks as best!

Science - Health

Consumer Reports magazine has analyzed the various popular diets available in the United States (and elsewhere). Based on the 2010 U.S. Dietary Guidelines, the magazine has announced its top three diet plans. Guess who is number one?

The people at Consumer Reports Health analyzed the 2010 U.S. Dietary Guidelines for the short-term and long-term results from diets (especially the amount of weight lost by people).

They also looked at the percentage of people that dropped out of each of the diet plans.

Check out the 'Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010' at Health.gov.

The health.gov website states, 'The Dietary Guidelines for Americans, 2010 provides evidence-based nutrition information and advice for people age 2 and older. They serve as the basis for Federal food and nutrition education programs.'

The U.S. Dietary Guidelines for Americans does not like any diet plan that provides more than 10% of its calories from saturated fat and more than 35% from fats overall.

In addition, to win the 'best diet plan' by CR Health, the diet plan had to have a healthy amount of weight loss over a reasonable amount of time, and a very low drop out rate.
