'¢ It makes them feel safer: 91% of cell phone users state that their cell phone makes them feel safer
'¢ It helps them coordinate and plan better: 88% of cell phone users say that their cell phones allow them to coordinate and make plans with family and friends.
According to the PEW article, the following results were also obtained:
'¢ African American and English-speaking Hispanics use cell phones and handsets more than White Americans -- 87% (cell phone ownership, for the first two groups) versus 80% (Whites).
'¢ African American and English-speaking Hispanics send and receive more cell phone calls each day: The percentage of African Americans and Hispanic Americans making and receiving over 30 cell phone calls a day are 12% and 14%, respectively. White Americans are only at 4%.
'¢ African Americas and Hispanic Americans send and receive 10 texts a day; while White Americans are only at about 5 texts a day.
