The article continues with: 'Most troubling, the U.S. fails to achieve better health outcomes than the other countries, and as shown in the earlier editions, the U.S. is last on dimensions of access, patient safety, coordination, efficiency, and equity.'

The report found that the Netherlands was ranked first, with the United Kingdom second, and Australia third.

Please read the previously-mentioned Commonwealth fund article 'Mirror, Mirror on the Wall: How the Performance of the U.S. Health Care System Compares Internationally, 2010 Update' for additional information and data on the survey of the seven developed countries of the world and their ranking of healthcare.

The Commonwealth Fund, as stated on its website, 'The Commonwealth Fund is a private foundation that aims to promote a high performing health care system that achieves better access, improved quality, and greater efficiency, particularly for society's most vulnerable, including low-income people, the uninsured, minority Americans, young children, and elderly adults.'

It also adds, 'The Fund carries out this mandate by supporting independent research on health care issues and making grants to improve health care practice and policy. An international program in health policy is designed to stimulate innovative policies and practices in the United States and other industrialized countries.'
