Diet sodas may lead to kidney problems in women

Science - Health

Dr. Lin added, ''With natural aging, kidney function declines about 1 mL [milliliter] per minute per year after age 40. We didn't see any association up to two artificially sweetened beverages a day.” [WebMD]

Thus, the kidneys have a natural reduction in function over time.

However, the researchers state that the decline doubles when two or more diet sodas are consumed each day over the long term.

The conclusions of the study were presented at the annual meeting of the American Society of Nephrology, which was held in San Diego, California, U.S.A.

Further research is necessary to verify this claim, and to learn more about why artificial sweeteners have the potential to hurting kidney functions in women and, mostly likely, in men, too.
