The Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report by the team headed by Dr. McKnight-Eily also concluded other findings.
Some of these other findings were:
• The report also found that 17% of adults reported that didn’t get enough sleep half of the nights within the previous month.
• On the other side, only 31% of the adults reported getting sufficient sleep every night over the past month.
• Women reported getting less sleep than men. Women reported not getting enough sleep 12.4% of the time, while men reported insufficient sleep 9.9% of the time.
• People 65 years or older reported the highest percentage of enough sleep every night during the month—at 57%. Only 7% of seniors reported insufficient sleep every night for the month.
• People 25 to 34 years reported the lowest percentage of having every night during the month with sufficient sleep—at 22%. They reported 14% of insufficient sleep every night during the month.
Dr. McKnight-Eily stated in the CDC report,
“The importance of chronic sleep insufficiency is under-recognized as a public health problem, despite being associated with numerous physical and mental health problems, injury, loss of productivity, and mortality.”
