The report states that the cause for the increase in diabetes over the next forty years is:
Obesity (being obsessively overweight).
Within the NCSEM report, it states,
“… it is vital that those living with Type 2 diabetes are supported with interventions to control and manage the significant burden this (rise) will place on all Australians".
Type 2 diabetes, also called diabetes mellitus type 2, is a disorder that occurs during adulthood.
It is characterized by either the body not producing sufficient amounts of insulin (relative insulin deficiency) or the cells of the body ignoring the insulin produced (insulin resistance).
Type 2 diabetes is the most common form of diabetes, with the other form being type 1 diabetes.
It is also called Diabetes mellitus type 1, which is caused by the destruction of insulin-producing beta cells of the pancreas. It is contracted in childhood.

Diabetes 2 to be high on agenda by 2050,” associate professor Jonathan Shaw (Baker IDI Heart and Diabetes Institute) states,
"We need to be looking at what we can do already with people who have diabetes to control their symptoms and make it less likely they will develop costly complications - both in dollar and personal terms.”
