U.S. study: Irregular eating habits adds weight

Science - Health

All three ways involve eating at irregular times of the day (times when people normally do not eat, such as in the middle of the night), or not eating during regular eating times during of the day (such as skipping breakfast).

U.S. neuroscientist Deanna Arble, the lead author of the study, states, "I think sleep has a very important role in metabolism. For someone not consuming excess calories each day, and they're doing everything by the book but still gain weight, maybe look into the time of day you're eating." [U.S. News and World Report]

She concludes, "It could be a factor." [U.S. News and World Report]

However, she also states that eating at only three times each day (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) does not mean you are going to lose weight or not gain weight.

Arble states, it "… does not mean you can eat as much as you want because it's the right time of day." [U.S. News and World Report]
