They found that one single product has different salt content depending on which country it goes for consumption.
For instance, the survey found that Kellogg’s Cornflakes had 2.8 grams of salt per 100 grams of flakes in the Middle East, but only 1.75 grams of salt per 100 grams of flakes in Spain and 1.8 grams of salt per 100 grams of flakes in the United Kingdom.
Likewise, a Bacon Double Cheeseburger from Burger King contains 3.2 grams of salt in Brazil, while in the United Kingdom, the same burger only contains 2.1 grams of salt.
The group states that differences in salt amount in these breakfast cereals and fast foods depend on various reasons such as government restrictions on salt, cultural preferences, and the amount of salt available in regions of the world.
For instance, the government of the United Kingdom is actively trying to reduce the amount of salt in food, which is why foods in this country, generally, contain less salt in the same foods in other countries.
