After this 2006 report was issued, the researchers continued to study some of these male patients.
The men that continued to drink pomegranate juice had even better results over the next two years.
When they drank pomegranate juice over a 64-month period (just over five years from 2003 to 2008), the men showed that their PSA levels took four times longer to double when compared to their 30-month stage of the study—when the PSA test showed twice as long for the doubling of the PSA levels.
Thus, the study found that drinking pomegranate juice on a daily basis helps to slow the progression of prostate cancer in men.
And, the longer they drank the juice, the better it slowed the disease’s progression.
According to the American Cancer Society, about 186,000 men in the United States will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2008. Nearly 30,000 will die.
