The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is providing grants for innovative global health solutions. The best part of the deal is anyone can apply. Yes, this meanS YOU!
According to the website of the
Grand Challenges in Global Health,
“The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has committed $100 million to encourage scientists worldwide to expand the pipeline of ideas to fight our greatest health challenges.”
The Grand Challenges website states,
“The grant program is open to anyone from any discipline, from student to tenured professor, and from any organization – colleges and universities, government laboratories, research institutions, non-profit organizations and for-profit companies.”
It adds,
“Of the billions spent each year on research into life-saving medicines, only a fraction is focused on discovering and developing new tools to fight the diseases that cause millions of deaths each year in developing countries. The Grand Challenges in Global Health initiative is an effort to address this imbalance.”
You can apply online. The winning grants will be awarded about four months from the submission deadline. According to the website,
“Initial grants of $100,000 are awarded two times a year. Successful projects have the opportunity to receive a follow-on grant of $1 million or more.”
The Grand Challenge is organized into three main program areas: Global Development, Global Health, and United States Program. Learn more at

We work with a range of partners to achieve our goals as the scale of the problems we are trying to solve is large. Our partners include the nonprofits, businesses, and governments to whom we make grants. Other partners may co-fund work or help us bring together multiple players working toward a common goal.
